Scottish Seabed Recovers After Dredging Damage
A protected marine area in Scotland is showing signs of recovery after illegal fishing damaged the seabed in 2019. Conservationists used an underwater drone to observe the sea floor near Eilean Dubh island. They discovered that crabs, cat sharks, and sea cucumbers are returning to the area. Campaigners are now petitioning the Scottish parliament to restrict dredging in more coastal waters, hoping to protect young fish like cod from destructive fishing gear.
