What data we collect
Simple News is designed to collect as little personal data as possible.
- Email address — only if you choose to create an account. Creating an account is optional.
- Reading preferences — your selected CEFR level and reading history, stored in your browser or linked to your account if signed in.
- Analytics data — aggregated, anonymised usage data collected via Google Analytics 4 (GA4), such as page views and session duration. This data does not identify you personally.
We do not collect names, phone numbers, payment details, or any other personally identifiable information beyond an optional auth email.
How we use your data
- To personalise your reading experience by remembering your chosen difficulty level.
- To understand how learners use the platform so we can improve content and features.
- To send you account-related emails (password reset, etc.) if you have an account.
We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising profiling.
Cookies
We use cookies for two purposes:
- Essential cookies — required for authentication and keeping you signed in.
- Analytics cookies (GA4) — used to measure site traffic and usage patterns. These cookies are only set after you provide consent.
You can withdraw analytics consent at any time by clearing your browser cookies or using your browser's privacy settings.
Third-party services
Simple News uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Stores article data and, if you have an account, your email address. See supabase.com/privacy.
- Google Analytics 4 — provides anonymised usage analytics. See policies.google.com/privacy.
- OpenRouter — AI infrastructure used to generate and adapt news articles to CEFR levels. Article text is processed by OpenRouter's API; no personal user data is sent. See openrouter.ai/privacy.
AI-generated content
All articles on Simple News are generated or adapted by AI. No personal user data is used as input to AI content generation. Article generation may involve sending news summaries to an AI model via OpenRouter; this data is not linked to any individual user.
