Structure:

verb + particle + object / verb + object (pronoun) + particle

Separable phrasal verbs: the object can go between the verb and particle, or after the particle. BUT pronouns MUST go in the middle: 'turn it off' (NOT 'turn off it').

Example:

Turn off the light. / Turn it off. She picked up her bag. / She picked it up.
